Sardar Fateh Muhammad Khan Buzdar

Sardar Fateh Muhammad Khan Buzdar (1938–2019) was a Pakistani tribal leader and politician from Barthi in Dera Ghazi Khan. He belonged to the Buzdar tribal leadership and served as Tumandar of the Buzdar tribe.

He was born in Barthi, a tribal area of Dera Ghazi Khan, into the family of Sardar Dost Muhammad Khan Buzdar. He pursued higher education in political science and completed an MA in Political Science from the University of Karachi in 1964.

Before and alongside his political career, Fateh Muhammad Khan Buzdar worked as a public-school teacher and was also involved in agriculture.

His public career included service on the Dera Ghazi Khan District Council. He later became a member of the Federal Council (Majlis-e-Shoora) during 1983–84.

He subsequently represented Dera Ghazi Khan in the Punjab Assembly on three occasions. His public life therefore combined traditional tribal leadership with participation in elected and local government institutions.

As Tumandar of the Buzdar tribe, he held an important traditional leadership position among the Buzdar communities of the tribal areas of Dera Ghazi Khan.

Fateh Muhammad Khan Buzdar remained associated with the social and political affairs of Dera Ghazi Khan throughout his public life. He died on 4 January 2019 and was buried in the ancestral graveyard at Barthi, in the Buzdar tribal area.

His legacy is connected with the tribal, political and public history of Dera Ghazi Khan and the wider Saraiki region.
