Islamabad Police Arrest Six in Theft Case at Bahawalpur Nawab Family’s Residence

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police have announced the arrest of six suspects in connection with a theft at the residence of the Nawab of Bahawalpur family in Sector F-8/3, Islamabad. Police say stolen valuables, precious items and cash worth more than Rs 70 million have been recovered.

According to an official statement issued on October 13, the Margalla Police Station team traced the case using modern investigative techniques, Safe City surveillance cameras and information obtained through human intelligence.

The announcement follows an earlier police update published on October 5, which reported the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of approximately 70 to 80 per cent of the stolen property.

Historical Antiques and Family Valuables

Earlier reporting by the Associated Press of Pakistan identified the residence as belonging to Prince Bahawal Abbas Khan Abbasi, son of Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi.

The items reported missing included silver objects, gold plates, historical frames bearing the emblem of the former Bahawalpur State, decorative statues, swords and old firearms. Some of these objects were described in earlier reports as historical antiques and family valuables.

Questions Over the Reported Value

The latest police announcement puts the value of the recovered property and cash at more than Rs 70 million. However, an earlier report published on October 5 estimated the value of the stolen antiques and valuables at approximately Rs 20 million.

The available official announcements do not explain the difference between the two figures. The latest valuation has therefore been attributed to the police and has not been independently verified by Saraikistan.

Investigation Continues

Islamabad Police have stated that a case has been registered and further investigation is underway. Authorities say legal proceedings will continue against the arrested suspects in accordance with the law.

The arrests and reported recovery represent the police account of the case. The allegations against the suspects remain subject to the legal process, and their guilt has not been established by a court in the sources reviewed for this report.
